Default wind shield trim failure

The wind shield trim has detached along the top and portions of the sides.
I see very little in the way of old adhesive on the vinyl trim.
Research has taken me to 3M Windo-Weld which is used for setting wind shield glass. This seems heavy handed to me but a gasket repair adhesive was not sufficient.

Please weigh in with experience with this repair?

It certainly looks cosmetic. It also looks like it keeps dirt and tree debris from accumulating in the crimp around the wind shield.
I looks like I would need to remove all the trim to be able to clean out the crimp or over time dirt and wet would accelerate rust.
