Default 1999 cavalier theft light on car wont start

i have a 1999 cavalier 2.2 auto i just bought today and the theft light is on
the car wont crank over i have no power at the relay that feeds the starter
if i jump the starter with a screwdriver it will spin but not engage
i have tried to reset the theft system by leaving the key on for 10-15 minutes in the on position i have tried to start the car in netural and i still have nothing

i am ready to just take the car to the scrap yard and be done with it

has anyone else had this problem??

Welcome to the forum. The THEFT SYSTEM indicator should have nothing to do with the starter. The battery voltage is supplied to the starter solenoid through the 50A IGN fuse in the underhood fuse block, over RED wire to ignition switch, over YEL wire to PNP switch (closed only with transaxle in park or neutral), and then over PPL wire.
