Default 2011 Avalanche Oil pressure guage not working

The oil pressure gauge on my 2011 avalanche has stopped working all together. I have seen numerous posts about changing out sensor to fix the problem. Question is to everyone before I venture into this:

1) Does the oil type make a difference? I have see some posts that synthetic oil in older vehicles (250,000km) the oil is not heavy enough and may cause the sendor to not function properly? Is this true?

Default Oil guage

It’s either the oil sender or the stepper motor in the dash. I use 10-30 synthetic.

I have a 2011, it just started the low oil pressure thing a week ago. Drives fine most of the time, bells and lights the other.
My new oil pressure sensor is showing up today. What is the stepper motor in the dash???
