Default 700r4 need some kind of a controller?

I would like to put a 700r4 into an F150. I like 1st gear ratio - the lowest I have seen in an auto tranny for this generation. The flexplate and adapter plate are available for about $500, but, in reading about this, people are telling me that I need to buy some kind of controller to go with it. I thought the 700r4 was a non-electronic transmission? I have a 1992 F150. It is fuel injected, but, afaik, that is the extend to the electronics in it...one of the reasons why I wanted to buy an older vehicle.

doesn't the f150 use an electronic transmission? How will you fool the computer into thinking it's there?

Sorry, my bad. I have a 1992 F150 with a manual transmission now. AFAIK, the only thing the computer does is regulate the engine.
