I have a 1994 5.7 chevy with about 182,000 miles on it. I was looking to bore out the cylinder heads and put all new engine parts on it. My question is would I be better off buying a new engine?

really depends on your budget and ultimate goal from motor. these motors come with 9.5:1 compression already, which is pretty good for torque and power. whaddya want to do with motor?

I wanted to bore it out to a 410 and put a supercharger on it. Also replace the tranny for a suncoast and put a posi trac on the rear.

what kind of horsepower are you trying to get? you're set on the supercharger? gm performance parts offers great motor packages built, ready to run, pushing some damn good numbers.

You have a hella budget then. Well, A rebuild is the same as new in my opinion on a 350. Don't go anymore than .60 over if your putting a supercharger on it. The cylinder walls would be getting thin.

Yeah I have a pretty decent budget lol. I have talked to many people before about boring out their engines. Do the chances of overheating really increase that much when you do?

maxxman: Yeah I was looking at buying an LS6 engine of of GM's website, but I was kinda wanting to keep the stock engine with the truck. I was looking to get about 450+ HP outta this whole upgrade.

i would consider a new crate engine for that kind of power if your budget allows. if you want to retain the fuel injection, there are alot of aftermarket injection kits that are easy to bolt on, or look at the tpi motors from gm. pretty much the same motor found in camaros/firebirds. with an injector uprgrade, pcm reprogram, few other easy mods, you can get good power. also, a few years ago, car craft magazine did a story on a budget build/hp increase of the 5.3 motor. basically a hot cam, pcm reprogram were the biggest parts. plus, puttin a supercharger on a motor kinda makes it non stock.

How much would you expect that hot cam and pcm reprogram, etc. to cost? And if I was to put a hot cam on would I not have to redo the tranny and rear axle to handle the additional horsepower?
