Default 98 k1500 brake issue

Hi guys.

I have a 98 k1500 5.7 vortec 155,000 miles. She was running fine until Saturday, while driving it home I notice the brake light came on. I found that the brake line to the rear had broken. Later that evening I got a knock on the door from the neighbor who said my running lights were on. I got out side and realized that the reverse lights, break lights, headlights, inside dash lights, Brake warning light and buzzer were all on. I was unable to turn any of this stuff off so I disconnected the battery for the evening. Today I replaced the rear brake line which was corroded and bled the brakes. The brakes are still spongy and the running lights, reverse light, interior dash lights, brake warning light and buzzer continue to stay on without the KEY in the ignition. Seems crazy but it has been a bad weekend. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Look for damaged or corroded wires going to the rear of the truck that might be causing a short. With corroded brakes lines it is quite possible to also have the same problems with the wiring.

Thanks. I will be working on it tomorrow. I will check especially the trailer lights as I have heard can cause major problems.
Also is there a special way in bleeding a 98 k1500 5.7l truck? I have bled the brakes twice and still get sponginess from them.

Thanks

Do you think a short or bad wire would keep all the different lights on and also interior lights?

Depends on how many different wires are damaged and if they are shorted to a power source.

Alright. My buddy and I bled the brakes again and have then working pretty well. However the lights still are staying on even though the the key is out of the ignition. I pulled ever fuze except the abs fuze. The only fuze that did anything was fuze no. 1 which was the hazard and interior buzzer fuse. The lights including the reverse and running lights stay on. I did purchase the brake switch and clip from GM just in case that could be the problem.

I do have a video I can send you. Not sure if I can post the video here.

Was wondering could be the neutral safety switch prevent the lights from turning off? Or is there any other switch that could do the same to all these lights?

Alright guys. I had a chance to take a closer look at my lights. Since I had little to loose I figured I would disconnect the trailer wiring harness to my truck. I figured the only thing the running lights, break light, reverse light and turn signals had all in common and that was that they all run to the trailer connector. So after disconnecting the wires the lights began to function as normal.

Thanks guys for your help.

I hope this helps others
