Blew engine up after intake manifold gasket reapair
Thanks Smitty and the others I'm not sure If I will try to go after him or not. (still to angry to make that decision) It was a friend of friend that is a ups mechanic for 30 years and charged me a fair price for the actual hours that was put in and he said he never had that issue. It will be tough to prove if the damage was there before the gasket was changed or was caused because the oil was not changed and engine not flushed. As far as MDTahoe and you get what you pay for, that is not always true. The original place I went for oil change used to belong to my old mechanic that had retired and was always fair and honest amd the best mechanic I knew. The people that bought the buiness from him have lost his old client base because of there high wages poor workmanship and deciet. Its the type of place that lures you in there with low advertised prices then gets you on all the extras. I brought it in there for an oil change priced at 18.99 then they get you for upgraded oil, oil disposal,45.00 to tell me that my water pump was leaking from the weep hole. on top of the oil change price. That along with the price he quoted me for water pump and gaskets there is no way I will go back there again. The new water pump cost 75.00 not the 250 you say it should cost and the gaskets were 50.00 not 250.00 never mind the 110.00 hour rare that you charge. Thats why most people don't go to dealers after the warranty expires. People want to be treated fairly. Just because it is more expensive doesn't mean it is betteror if it cost less it is not as good. You can buy the exact same products at different places for many different prices. Thanks for listening and letting me vent.
if you call chevrolet and run the part number I gave you, you will find the 250 dollars was decently accurate (unless alldata gave a wrong number, they list the oem part number and approx dealer cost, and that was the approx dealer cost).
110 dollars is alot but not alot to pay when you realize their pockets are WAY deeper than joe schmoe mechanic. Accidents happen, and when you find a lube tech left your drain plug loose or crossthreaded the drain plug, you can expect that the problem will get resolved free of charge. Good luck having that done at jiffy lube. a year ago a tech did some cooling system work at my dealer... a weekish later the car came back needing a motor because the tech "left the petcock open" (even though he had it running in his stall for hours with no problems and no puddle of coolant) and despite the temp gauge pegging out and "check gauges" light flashing, the customer continued to drive until the motor was dead. he got a free motor in the deal despite his car yelling at him to STOP.
Compare that story to your situation and you will realize 110 dollars an hour (which is 15 bucks an hour over my shops rate) is not a bad price to pay at all. I can garantee if the tech at a dealer didnt put "customer declined oil change even though he was warned of severe engine damage" in his story and your oil wasnt changed, there would be no problem here, you would be getting a motor (or would have needed one because the oil would have been changed).
Dont get me wrong, I work on cars for a living because I A, enjoy it (usually) and B because I could not afford to pay to have my car fixed. 110 bucks an hour is like repair insurance, and worth every penny... thus being said, because you didnt pay your insurance have fun fighting this guy for his pocket change or replacing the motor yourself.
Above all, good luck!
