Default Can't adjust steering wheel after replacing rack & pinion

For a 2004 GMC 1500 Savana 5.7L 2wd

Hi guys, I'm stumped. replaced the R&P and the steering wheel is a little crooked.
So i pulled if off but there's a post/stud behind the clock-spring that I'm unable to move. If I could move this I'm home free. Did what the haynes manual said didn't understand the part where it said to "depress the back of the clock-spring in and turn it" because it turns freely as it is... and doesn't make a difference anyways. It can only go over the post one way.

I also took the linkage off thinking I could put it on a few splines over but can only be attached in one way on both ends.

with clockspring

stationary post behind clockspring, Can this be turned?
