Default Chevy 350 in jet boat - cooling question

Hello all. Just got my engine back from the builder and now I feel like I dumb A. Check out this picture (very similar to my motor). Where the water pump hooks up on the left side..... there is a hole just below the lower water pump mounting bolt that hapily spews water out of it while the engine is running... what is this hole for and can I plug it without causing a problem?

not sure what kind of pump is on the engine being that it is in a jet boat, but normally in a car the water pump covers up that part.most of the time the pump gaskets both have 4 holes in them (3 small ones and one large) other then that i don't see any reason why you cloudn't tap it out with pipe threads and plug it

That was what I was hoping to hear.....

I figure a stock or aftermarker water pump covers is, bu t I figured it was some sort of return into the engine. I'dlive to plug it up

Did it take a 1/2 plug? (pipe threads)
