Default Chugging in overdrive at low rpms but fine in other gears

I have a chevy 1500 and my truck is chugging in overdrive at 1500 rpms but its fine in other gears and if you are at higher rpms it runs fine. When i say it chugs it goes from 1500 rmps to 2000 and just kinda keeps jumping. but if i had it in 3rd it wouldnt do it. just in overdrive. it makes a vroom vroom vroom....ect. its so annoying and probably killing my gas milage. someone please help i dont know what to do. and its not throwing any codes so i really dont know whats going on. i just changed the plugs, cap and rotor. did nothing..

thanks for looking

Thumbs up using od

i have a 98 1500 truck v6 and never use the overdrive gear except when im on the highway. use only 3 gear for most of my driving. it will go into od as soon as it can and bog rite down so i never use it.

is it on flat roads or under load like going up hills? can you cruise at those rpms at lower speeds with no issue?

Default using od

i think they designed these trannys to go into 4 gear as soon as it can for gas mileage but what happens is it down shifts constantly if your not on the highway and gets overworked. i actually read that in a chevy book and they recomended not using od at all except on the hiway. when mine reached 100k miles i took it to a tranny place and had it fully serviced for a 100 bucks. the guy said it was in great shape. i would suggest doin that and get a pro apinion . good luck, another thing , your not gonna hurt it by not putting it in od , even at hiway speeds, i do it all the time.
