Default Electrical Problems

I have a 1996 chevy silverado ext cab, Can anyone tell me if they have had electrical problems? My problem is when I turn my heater fan switch to high my fan motor quits. the indicator lights for brake lights and the abs light will flash along with the gear shift indicator light. I replaced the brake light switch by the brake pedal and the heater/ac control switch. Now my truck won't start at all, have power but when I turn the key to crank the motor nothing happens. Someone has to of had this problem please advise. Thank you new kid on the block

In the process of changing the brake light switch and the heater switch something else could have been disconnected. Retrace your steps. The fan switch not working on high is probably a bad fan motor resister. The brake and ABS light happens to most Chevy trucks. Mine has been flashing for a year and a half. My truck still runs good. You need to trace these circuits with a meter.

Traced every step, everything was plugged in no loose wires and battery cables cleaned. changed the ignition switch, still doing the same thing, brake lights come on when key is turned on, changed the relay for the heater, did a continuity check also

Pull the brake light fuse, does this turn them off, or do they come on anyway? If they do, you have something crossed.

Talking Problem found

Found the problem! It was the negative cable that attaches to the eng block under the alternator it was almost off. Tightened and all is well. Thanks for everyone's input. If anybody has this issue trace the neg cable to the engine block. Thanks again

I make it a point to change the positive, negative, and engine ground strap

cables, when electrical problems begin.

It clears the playing field. Corroded cables are the great imitator.

They give many symptoms-hard starts, bad circuits, faulty wiring,

and many other system function anomalies.

But most important, bad cables will destroy your

alternator, starter, and battery.
