I have an 07 Equinox and when I squeeze the button on my gear shifter to move it out of park, I get a click noise coming from inside the steering wheel(toward the back of the steering wheel up by the Odometer and other gauges). It's just one click per squeeze and only happens while it is in park. Any Ideas.

I have had the vehicle for 3 years and never noticed the sound before?

 

its the relay that is activating the release. kind of like brake pedal switch. when you depress pedal it allows you to move gear selector from park to other gears. its just a loud relay.

 

actually its the ignition lock solenoid. When the gear shifter is moved out of park, the solenoid activates preventing you from turning the key all the way off.

 

yea thats the thingy i was talking about. the closest thing i could come up with was relay but solenoid... lol. it was early for me...
