I have a 97' Lumina with an erratic gas gauge. Can't figure out how much fuel is in it!! What is the worst case scenario of this issue as far as cost?

 

Your fuel level sender is probably faulty. This is part of the fuel pump. Every shop will charge you something different especially if you ask them to diagnoise it for you. Start calling shops and getting a quote on a fuel pump.
