I replaced the ignition switch on my 2004 avalanche, now the door chimes when open even if the key is removed it still chimes and is driving me nutz. It had only chimed when I had left the key in ignition an opened door. Hmmm did i screw up on the installation? I sure could use somegood advise. Thanks in advance

 

Yeah. You have a wire on wrong, or shorting to ground I beleive.

 

It just had 3 diffrent type connectors. All with diffrent ends. But it did have a plastic gear on the upper end next to the key switch.maybe it was in the wrong position when i slid in the lock. I dont know. Its sad now days, I cant afford a good machanic an they are so complicated its hard to DIY. Thanks for input

 

Usually the key detect is just a contact that closes either by putting current through the key itself or by tripping a switch inside the key barrel. If you look closely at it you may can determine whether the function of the key detect is correct.
