i hear good things bout the Q-jet from some of the older crowd I know. It's something about it's more simple to rebuild and the jet's and floats are simple to change for more CFM. Something along them lines anyway. Personally, I'd go with Edelbrock. But I prefer TBI over all of it, including my 07.

The three to five horse gain isn't worth the mileage drop.
They (edelbrock, holley) are finnicky and constantly need adjusting.
I've never had good luck with them.
Please note that this is simply my opinion.
I like the simplicity of the Q-jet.
Edit: I just re-read the thread. You might consider a holley truck avenger if you get serious off-road. I ran one and didn't like it, but I didn't like any carb off-road, that prompted a TBI swap. An option you might consider if you can afford it.

what a Edelbrock cost and a Qjet cost now i do not know. i have gotten over 100k on Qjets before needing rebuilding. and any parts store stock a kit for it... i don't know maybe just getting old, and hard to think in the 21st. century
good luck on what ever you chose
