Just update this thread and rename it it is easier to follow one thread then several.

 

I would not worry about the oil pressure being to high, too low would be a problem. Sounds pretty typical of a fresh engine.

 

Hmm, a general rule for break in.. DO NOT drive it hard for the first few hundred miles. Even if you had done an engine break in.. Still, I wouldn't race it or anything. I've always been told, For your break in, I think its a few hrs on the break in oil, then 250 miles change it, 500 miles more, change it. Then 1000 miles, change it. Then every 3k. Thats what we've always done and it works like a charm. It's not like oil's that expensive, its relatively cheap insurance once you compare the price of the motor to maybe $100 in 5 oils changes.

I also agree with MDtahoe. If it persists past a few months, after being broke in and such, then I might worry.

Definately change all fluids and change the oil pressure gauge.

 

I agree, you said it had a 7 quart pan, so it probably has a high volume pump.

 

In my 89' 350 TBI, I rebuilt it bored .60 over, mild cam, aftermarket heads and intake, everything else was stock. My oil pressure hung around 75-80 the 20,000 miles i drove it.

 

The oil pressure's always going to register a little high until the engine warms up, then it should drop. High pressure would be a good thing, if it were actually available or sustainable.

As to engine break-in, for the first thousand miles try to keep the engine at steady speeds and RPMs. Avoid hard running, run & gun, or hard and high revs.
