Factory remote integrates with the vehicle and parts will most likely *aways be available... aftermarket may get better range but the company may flop a year later and when you need a remote the only option is a new system...

Its been my exp with aftermarket ones that they seem to stop working at some point due to poor connections due to crimp connections or unsecured wires being pulled or knocked loose due to "getting it installed as quick and cheap as possible"

If you do your own and take the time to solder, tape, seal, loom and tie everything then it could be a comparable system... that's my 2¢

with a factory remote you won't have to splice into any factory wiring, which may compromise warranty. It won't over-ride your factory anti-theft system.

All you need is the fobs and the programming release from gm for the 1 way kit.

You can get a two way remote kit that will give you approx 500' range which will require installing a new rcdlr module and antenna. Its all part of the kit.

How much more would this cost for the longer range? Is the 500' a factory item a plug and go setup, what is a rcdlr module?
Thanks for all the info everyone

the factory 2way remote is a gm kit that you can get from the dealer and the remote control door lock receiver is replaced. The programming must be done by the dealer. The installation can be done elsewhere depending on your skill level.
