Service 4wd light code c0306 range actuator short to ground

Service 4wd light code c0306 range actuator short to ground
I have a 2004 Silverado 5.3l and My service 4wd light Is on. The code I have is c0306 range actuator short to ground. My 4wd selector is lite up. If I try to put it in anything it will blink then go back to 2wd. Randomly it will work, like once a month maybe. How do I go about testing this? What could it be? The ground wires on the frame under drivers side door are completely clean and tight as for that’s the first thing i did. I looked at all the wires under the truck and everything looked fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
