Default set timing now backfires wont start!!

Hello to all,i bought a 1994 chevy silverado lwb as a work truck the engine in it is the 4.3 v6 vortec..Before i could start this truck but it wouldnt stay running so i started working on it,i (oops) screwed up the timing both firing and engine so to fix it i started turning motor to tdc and turning rotor to the number one and moving distributor to the 1,6,5,4,3,2 firing order, before i did this the truck was blowing gas back out the top of the throttle body, now i got it not to do that but worse its backfiring without starting, loading up,what do i need to do,totally lost in texas oh and side note i got rid of the guts of the catalytic converter thinking it was stopped up.

Are you sure you started at TDC #1 on the compression stroke? If you didn't, your timing is out 180 degrees.
