Default Shifter Malfunction

Good Afternoon everyone, first time member post. Would like to intro myself. My name is Aaron and I am a first time owner of a Chevy Truck and member to the site. I recently bought a 2011 2500HD Silverado 4x4 from my work. It has approx 262,000 miles, but runs fantastic. This morning went to move the truck and found the problem. Truck starts fine, depressed the brake to shift and the shifter on the column will move, but does not engage into any gears. I also noticed the indicators on the dash panel do not move. You can move the shifter up and down but the P stays lit. Is there still a shifter cable or is it an electronic module, and where would it be? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

Yes, there is a shifter cable, and that would be what I would inspect first. You should be able to see the shift arm on the side of the transmission. You can (Carefully) have someone shift while watching that to see if it moves. If not it's a cable.
