Default Towing a 1 car open trailer

Looking for insight - which is better to tow a 1car open air hauler - a half ton, or 3/4 ton? We've heard so many different stories, and thought maybe someone here could give more insight into it.

Also, should mention we are looking at a suburban, 1/2 ton, FFV, & are looking for good gas mileage (which I know, is generally not the case with FFV, but with gas prices, we're hoping the price per gallon, will even out the loss in gas mileage).

Any & all insight & help on this would be greatly appreciated!

A 3/4 desiel will be your best bet. The 3/4 will pull better and support the weight better. If you get a gas engine your gas mileage will be bad, but a desiel will keep you with both good gas mileage and power.

My problem with diesel, is that we've had bad experiences with trying to find mechanics to work on them, especially since we do take long trips, & if it were to break down, qualified diesel mechanics are hard to find.

gas and diesel get the same milage empty, the difference is loaded the diesel maintains the same milage, and you wont notice your trailer, if it were me, I would look ata 1/2 Vortech Max, pulls 10.500lbs, has a 6.0 same as the 3/4 Gas, and comes with DOD, (shuts down to 4cyl when you dont need it) get you the best gas milage....however this all depends on what your hauling.....also if it is agoose neck trailer and you are looking crew cab, 3/4 is your only choice...goose neck trailors dont sit well in Crew cab 1/2 tons, box is to short....

remeber Diesel is nice, but it comes with a price tag of almost 10G more, at least in Canada....maybe be less in the US but that is a LOT of GAS for your gas hauler, and a oil change is over 100 bucks for a diesel as well, 15 litres of oil, there is a lot of added expense to having a diesel, it will last longer, and you wont even notice the trailer there. but cost you....as for Mechanics, any GM dieler should be able to help you as well as most truck stops, sides with a Duramax and a allison you prolly wont have any problems...

the Suburban is good to 8000lbs, a little light for hauling a car and trailor..again depends on the car your haulling.........but the longer wheel base would do better then a 1/2 truck
