Default Very very bizarre situation with my Tahoe...Can anyone help???

When I went to go start my truck and put it into gear the shift stick was loose and it would not catch any gear.

So as I am panicking this man walks up and asks me what's going on.
I explained the issue to him and he just jumped into action taking the floorboard of my truck apart. Long story short he fixed the problem in less than five minutes.

Did I get scammed? Is there a way to disengage the transmission shift cable from under the car? Has this happened to anyone or has anyone heard of this before??

thanks!

Did you pay the guy anything? It can really only be a scam if you're out any money. Could have just been a Good Samaritan.

The guy didn't ask for money but we gave him $40. We are still wondering if its possible to access the cable from underneath? I'm a born skeptic i guess. I'm from London and scams are commonplace there!

Thanks Titantn24

I think it's very unlikely that such an intuitive diagnostician just showed up out of the blue.

$40...
I think you scammed yourself.

Yep. if the cable came off of the shift linkage on the transmission this can happen. There is a "ball" on the end of the linkage arm on the transmission. The cable wears out and falls off the ball. It will probably happen again. If it does, you will probably have to replace the cable and/or linkage piece. 5 min.'s I can do it 1.
