Default factory radio remove

I need to install a line out converter so i can add a small sub to the stereo system. The current radio doesn't sound bad at all. I did put some better speakers in and only adding a small amp and 8 or 10 inch tube. Not trying to create a ground pounder just better audio. As i can see the best place to get to the factory wiring is behind the head unit. I pulled it out (did not disconnect it) and i can barely get my hands back there to solder anything. The head unit doesn't have enough slack in the harness to get anykind of good clearance. I would like to disconnect the head unit but can't seem to get a straight answer online about whether or not this will activate the lock feature on the radio. Any advice??
