What is it connected to on the other end and how long is it? What will it reach near the starter?

the wire comes from a big wire loom on the passenger side right next to the hood spring, it dangles down almost level with the frame and the female part looks like those pull and push caps on water bottles but has a little gasket around the base

Must not be too important if the car runs without it being connected. Could be from something that is no longer used such an accessory installed by someone else and then removed. Can't really tell from picture if it is electrical wire or a hose of some kind.

Default yes

The speedo works fine but the oil pressure sending unit is disconnected
So the oil light is on but other than that all the gauges work.

Where the wire meets up with the male part looks like a single standard copper wire just like the electric choke wire....if that helps any

Single spade, that might be to the sending unit. I couldn't tell from the images if it was a cable or wire.
