2000 impala a/c only works on 5 and whines
Just a week ago the a/c quit working, but I found out it still blows cold if set to 5 and the fan sounds like it has something stuck in it. Also, it only blows on the floor and defrost. Do I need a new compressor or condensor?
On a different note, I have tried to pump gas into the tank but it acts full and just gushes out. I seem to believe that is a vent solenoid and am pretty sure I can fix that no problem.
However, this a/c stuff I am not so familiar with... any insight is much appreciated.

I had the gas fill problem on another GM vehicle a few years back. I bought a vent solenoid to throw at it but it did not help. In my case, and with this car, the charcoal canister was plugged and did not allow airflow through the canister when the vent solenoid was open to allow the air out of the tank when filling. If you simply disconnect the hose to the solenoid as a test to see if it fills correctly while filling then you have a place to start. Could also be the check ball stuck in the fuel line. The Check ball prevents the fuel from running out of the fill hose in the case of an accident .

I just bought a 2000 Impala yesterday and the heater/ac only worked on the high setting. Goggled the problem and everything pointed to the blower motor resistor. It is a real pain in the butt but now, the heater/ac both work on all 5 settings. I got the blower motor resistor at Napa for about $45 and it takes about an hour to do. In the videos, the people have tape on the swivel/ socket. There is a reason, the two screws in the back, are right next to firewall. That darn socket will come off the swivel. I hope that helps, Randy
