Default 2002 Impala Acceleration

I own a 2002 impala with 160,000 miles on it. While I was on the road this afternoon, I noticed that it was accelerating very slow and it sounded like it would struggle to change gears at 40mph. It was almost like the vehicle would pause for a brief second or two before it would get enough juice to change gears. After doing some online research I have an idea that the Catalytic Converter may need to be replaced, but I'd like some other opinions as to what the problem could be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you dont have your own scanner a auto store or shop usually runs a scan for free. My guess is its a P4020 code.

The last time I've gotten it serviced was in of March 09, and everything was checked off as "good". I took it down to Midas and got the Midas Touch™ Courtesy Check. But thanks guys for your help I'm going to take it down to the shop to get it scanned.

I would get it searched for codes first. You have alot of things that could be wrong if you have 160 and original wires
