Default 2005 Impala Radio Reception

[align=left]We have a 2005 Impala and the radio reception is terrible. You either get very poor reception with lots of static or a loud humming type of noise. Basically the radio is useless due to the reception. We took it to the dealer and they replaced the antenae and it still is doing the same thing. Anyone have any ideas/solutions to this problem? Looking on the internet, it looks like the Impala has been having problems with radio reception since at least 2001!

the humming is usually a bad ground somewhere, coulb be shot speakers as well....the crackling is sometimes mistaken for poor radio reception, try a CD, see if you still get it.

CD's sound just fine. Nohumming or cracking when cd's are playing, just when listening to the radio.

The antenna is integrated within the back glass (like the rear defogger). does your radio reception worsen when using the rear defogger? Does the CD player sound good? If so, rear glass replacement may be needed.

If the reception goes out when the rear defrost is on....first thing to look for is a break in the rear defrost grid, second check out the antenna module for melted\corroded plugs.

Also, ANY type of tint on the rear glass will adversly affect the reception. If a tint is to protect the vehicle from the UV rays of the sun, it must contain small amount of metal. Some claim they don't, but they must in order to filter out UV rays. If you put tint over the antenna grid , you change the physical properties of the grid, thus making your reception crappy.
