Awesome info! thanks Shawn. i have had this problem on my 05 for over a year and never fixed it for two reasons, i told told the trans would probably have to be replaced (by the dealer who i rarely go to for rip-off repairs anyway) and i have better places for my money to go when these wipers still work. ill take a look when my wife gets home.

just joined the forum because im a diy guy whever i can, and forums are great!

The little metal tab was stuck where it would not let the wipers "park". I lubricated the metal tab so it will move back and forth. Since then, I have had no problems. Thanks Guys!!

Default No Cost Fix

Hey all, my 2001 Impala had the same problem. I had read on some other forums that you can just bend the tab back into position. This worked for me, and I only had to take off the driver side wiper and the plastic cowls leading to the assembly that Shawn posted. Good Luck!!

You have to report this issue to GM with your VIN #.... I have an 04 & have the same problem. The REAL problem is no one is reporting it to GM so they can't recall it. They recall based on complaints received & info from dealer repairs. I can't afford a dealer repair on this so I am left doing it myself like a lot of you. EVEN IF YOU HAVE REPAIRED IT, you still should report it & if there is a recall then you can submit for a reimbursement. This thread is going to help me a TON when I do get to the repairs. Thanks for taking the time to blog the issue & how to fix it!
& BTW the effffffed up thing is there IS a recall out for this issue just not on the IMPALA.... how redonculous is that?
