Im stumpped with the car. It over heats some days, other days it doesnt. My heater blows hot, and the car is at normal oper temp. then the hot air turns cold, and the car starts to over heat. I dont know what to look for.

probably the thermostat is getting stuck, mines did the opposite my car would start cold and the cold air would turn warm after awhile or driving but mine got stuck open so the fans would stay running... yours might be closed, failing to open thats why it gets hot. dealership thermostat costs around $40 + dollars or you can goto any local auto parts store and get a aftermarket one for around $15 depending on brand and temp before they open either 180 or 194.

Thermostat maybe the problem but i have seen alot of head and intakemanifold gasket problems if it's a 3.4 may want to do a pressure test and check coolant level.

I would go for the answer of Mikepardy. The intake manifold gasket is probably the culprit. Check you coolant bottle if it is emty or very muddy. There is a class action for the intake manifold gasket and if it is your case you may be entitle to some refund depending of the year or your mileage. If it is your thermostat it is a big job to change on the 3.4 engine. The thermostat is located under the manifold. A very ackward job compare to the 3.9 which take about 15 minutes to replace

i have a 2000 chevy impala that has an error code P0480:fan 1 Control Circuit. It will not pass emissions so I can not get tags for my car. I am tring to be cost effective because my husband has been laid off for 10 weeks now so money is alittle tight. If anyone could please give my any suggestions that would be great!
