Chevy Impala SS V8 5.3L Acceleration question
Hey, I just bought an 2006 Chevy Impala SS and I have a question about the acceleration.
It seems if i "Punch" it off the line, the car will chug almost, same type of feel when govenor kicks on at top speed. The engine like shuts off then on then off then on, and seems to do so more when im "Turning" is there some kind of safety thing built in? And even with traction control off it does it.

The computer in the SS will do this when it feels like actions taken by the driver may endanger the transmission and/or other components in the drive train. GM did this to keep from losing their shirts in warranty repairs. As you probably figured out by now, putting a 303hp/323tq V8 engine, tuned specifically for low end power, in a front wheel drive car...well do the math
With t/c on is shouldn't do that "chugging" when accelerating in a straight line, or at least I have never experienced it. I have experienced that with the t/c off from a 'dig' but only once when I drifted off a bit to the left. I always have my t/c on; I find it the best way to get the most performance in a straight line...just don't go nuts and mash down the pedal...focus on getting to the point of t/c activation and backing off a bit when you hit it, until you get up a point when you can then floor it without enacting the t/c. Practice, practice, practice.
In a turn, yes: with t/c on or off you will get that "chugging". This is by design to keep you your car operational and out of the repair shop.
There are tunes you can get that will take those safety controls out if it really bugs you, but don't expect a warranty repair should you break something...though I don't think the 2006 models have the 100K/5year powertrain warranty.
