Question Chrome Exhaust Trim Rings

What's the best cleaner/polish to use on the chrome rings that encircle the openings where the exhaust exits the bumper on the 2LTZ. I've used chrome polish, wax and simple green with varying results. What can I use that will not only make is clean and shiny, but will also leave something after cleaning that will make it easier next time it is due for cleaning?

I went with Meguiars... used those blue paper shop type towels....

Couldn't get everything clean...wasn't going to sit there and buff away for the next hour...so I threw in the towel..

But did clean up 90% of the junk for the time I allotted...

I haven't gone back and retried.

I might need some extra strength stuff on the black stuff.

Thanks Sledge for the info - "Threw in the towel??" - I liked that! I'll have to see how that works for me when it gets warmer around here. Do you think spraying a light coat of silicone would prevent the black from sticking?

It might - but then you end up with dirt and dust sticking, like your rims?

I think we just need to stay on them ... It's freezing here and now there is an ice pond around my car. I guess my tires are frozen to the ground.

I haven't had to polish anything else ... the mirrors look like crap when spraying on detailer but then they buff right out pretty clean....

I think I might go with a little bit of the neverdull stuff (wadding)... just on the black part that won't come out, and then finish it off with the meguiars once that starts to work away.

So many levels of cleaner and warnings... just need to be careful.

They get dirty quick. I had a 2014. Looked terrible after a wash.

I use some Mother's Chrome Polish on a microfiber cloth. It all comes off pretty easy, at least if it is not too caked on. Haven't had any issues yet keeping it clean. I just spend 5 min every so often to keep them looking good.

vgreid, thanks for the info. Did you notice if it was easier to clean up once a "base" of waxwas built up?

That's a good idea, but no, I haven't tried waxing the chrome rings yet. I guess anything that can put a protective layer on the chrome should help with the cleanup, right?

it appear that there was no crosstalk between the bumper cover designers and the exhaust designers. the space and openness between the two really bother me and no aftermarket exhaust tip extenders are available now. soooo unfinished appearance
