Default Dash mount ignition wiring

I'm looking to adapt a dash mounted ignition found in the impala into my hotrod.
The hotrod already has the dash mounted ignition from a 68 corvette with necessary wiring going right to the key cylinder itself.
Is it possible to swap the impala key cylinder and control module into my application? of course some rewiring will have to be done.
Anyone have any links or sources for a good wiring schematic for the 2004-2006 impala ignition wiring system????
I spend an hours at a GM dealership yesterday with a tech trying to look up some wiring schematics on the impala ignition but we found nothing...or the techwas lazy.
It is my understanding that there is a key cylinder and an actual control module that may communicate with the ECU.
Am I attempting the impossible? If it is possible any advice tips would be appreciated. Also what year impala would work best? I understand there are some pass lock issues and transponder key issues. I doubt either would affect me as my hotrod has no impala ECU to give it attitude. I was thinking 2004 - 2005 parts.

The transponder security system uses a " chip " in the key that is matched to the specificvehicle .

GM doesn't use this system in the 04-05 Impala it hasGM's own system called PassLock2.
The ignition tumbler switch itself has a particular resistance value that the onboard control modules are matched to. So if the vehicle is started without the key the control modules will not receive the appropriate signal from the ignition tumbler switch and shut down the fuel pump.

In your case if it is a straight forward ignition system there should be no problem using the ignition tumbler switch from the 04-05 or any other GM vehicle with the PassLock2 security system since the two signal lines won't be connected and won't be controlling anything.

Thanks!
Do you know where I can get the wiring schematics for the ignition system for the 04-05 Impala? I need to make sure what parts I have to order and verify I can infact wire this to my car. If I buy an 04-05 Impala assembly manual from an autoparts store will that have the detail of the ignition cylinder and module that I need?
Any recommendation of where to get the parts? or which parts I need to make this work?

During my time spent at the parts dept at my local GM dealer they showed me that the actual key cylinder is mounted into a module. I would assume the key cylinder won't be so simple as to just have the wire connections on the back. right? wouldn't the key cylinder plug into a control module to which I could get my wire feeds from?
I really need to just get some diagrams of the ignition system and wiring.
Since I only need the ignition system is there someplace I can get the diagrams i.e.website? or do i have to get the whole 04-05 Impala assembly manual? if so, will the assembly manual be detailed enough?
The GM dealer parts dept had the overview or shape of the parts but no wiring or detailed drawings. Or maybe they just didn't want to release that info to me.
