Default replacing the steering rack on my impala. help please

ok i recently picked up an impala for nothing after trading some welding labor for it. it needs a new steering rack. i have gotten the old one out and the new one is partialy in. my question is how do i know when the stub shaft on the new rack is connected fully into the piece thats on the steering colum. i'm not sure what its called. it connects the steering wheel to the steering rack. i don't want to put it on to little and have it fall off while i'm driving. does the stub go all the way into the metal fitting or what. pics would be great or a good answer. please and thanks. the car is an 2002 chevy impala.

The intermediate shaft is properly installed when it is fully seated, then torque the pinch bolt to 35 ft lbs.
