I agree, they call it a goodwill gesture, however they don't even notify the owners. I was just 2 weeks out of the goodwill gesture period as they call it. I called GM prior to bringing it to the dealer to have an idea what could possibly be covered. I was told bring it in for diagnostics and if that was in fact the problem, since it was just out of the time frame and I wasnt even notified that it should be covered. I was also told that the district manager for the area dealerships could cover it 100%. They would work with my local service manager and come up with a settlement essentially. My local dealership Clements Chevrolet in Rochester, MN said that the DM won't cover anything. I was disappointed since another person at GM said they could cover it 100% and chose not too. So much for taking care of customers and standing behind your product. It wouldn't be so bad if they already didn't admit it was an issue with the goodwill gesture to fix a know design flaw. I have driven GM vehicles all my life, but if a company isn't going to stand behind a product that they knowingly designed wrong, how can I possibly continue buying and recommending GM vehicles to others.

However, I just talked to my dealer and he said my eligibility ran out 5 days ago, or just 4 days before I suffered the problem while on a weekend trip. The car was purchased new in July 2013 and had less than 12,000 miles on it at the time the problem surfaced (not a typo; I'm 92 and the car sits in a garage all of the time). So because of those five days I am now supposed to pay $1000 to fix what was a design flaw from the beginning? The dealer bulletin was issued in April of 2019 but no mention was ever made to owners. Tell me that isn't underhanded, not-in-good-faith behavior on the part of GM. I don't care what kind of bath I take on a trade...if I have to spend a nickel to fix this fiasco I am thru with American cars,as will be my kids (one of whom recently bought a GM car based on my foolish recommendation).

Default Not Alone with this!

Its good to know I'm not alone concerning this issue. My side detection system went out just a couple of weeks after purchasing. Now my parking assist and front camera indicator light is on...plus my radio screen blacks out off and on! What I thought was a great car is now becoming a headache. I called the dealership to have it serviced but was told I was going to have to pay $99 for a diagnostic check plus the service on the car. Why do a diagnostic check when its telling you what the problem is when the engine light isn't on??? I'm won't be able to financially pay for the repairs....I mean why should I when I only had the car for 2 months now!!! I called the used car manager and left a message about my situation and he hasn't returned my calls....I called and sent the service manager a email and he hasn't responded which is making me pissed off to the highest of being pissed!!! because I feel I'm not being heard!! I was told after my first initial contact with them that there was a recall on the vehicle I had a couple of years ago about the side detection system but it's not showing in the system that the car was serviced for that....but now I'm stuck with it!! If Chevrolet/GM knows about these issues, why won't they just do another recall for these problems and fix it?!!!

Check to see if you have any blown fuses, especially fuse #62 in the fuse center located near the master cylinder under the hood.

Default SIDE BLIND DETECTION ISSUE RESOLVED!!! (Side Bind Zone Alert Module Water Intrusion)

I have a 2014 Impala LTZ (108,XXX miles) that had the same issue! The only issue I had AT THIS POINT was that the side detection wasn't actually working and i was getting 3 warnings when the car was started (blind detection failure, camera failure and one other one) but the car ran fine. I Called the dealership with the issue and they ran my VIN and found that my car was covered for free replacement parts and labor. I waited 6 weeks for parts arrive and then took car in to have the issue fixed. Got the car back and it ran fine with no warnings at start up and the side detection was working great... Drove the car for about 10 days and then had major issues. I was driving down the highway and all of a sudden my gauges stopped working, my heat shut off and I was getting tons of warnings (tire monitor system, Front camera, theft deterrent system, side detection failure, Airbags failure, Cruise, Stabilitrac, etc.) I called the dealership to let them know the problem and they said they will reorder more parts and maybe the replacements were "defective"... I'm guessing the dealership probably just disconnected it, cleaned the corrosion and put it back together and called it good. Who actually knows... I am demanding 2 new sensors and wiring harness!!!! Thanks to @GuruLBYQB In the mean time I pulled #62 fuse and will just deal with the 3 warnings at start up until its fixed correctly...

not sure why a dealership would not replace bad parts. if they don't have old parts to send back for warranty return, gm won't pay for replacing them. the entire warranty claim would get rejected.

Thanks for the heads up!!! I checked for a blown fuse #62 and it was in fact blown! I purchased a new one and the camera and parking assist works but the side detection doesn't....my guess is that it's completely out!

Greetings: I too have a 2014 Impala LTZ and am now receiving :Side Warning Sensor Alert" messages every time I start the car. and the sensor does not light up when a vehicle is in the blind spot.. I visited the dealer I bought it from and they said that they would charge me $199 to do the diagnostic (seems a little high). A customer who overheard me said that her car's sensor light in the mirror came on and wouldn't turn off-very distracting.

Default We need to complain

I have a 2014 Chevy impala ltz and it does the same. Today I made a complaint to http://nhtsa.dot.gov/ about this problem being a safety issue. Maybe if enough ppl do the same we can get this issue fixed (recall) instead of paying out of pocket.
