Default Transmission problem 2004 Impala

My 2004 Impala has 86k mileswith anintermittent trans problem. Symptoms are hard shift threw all gears on acceleration. I have read that the older 00-03 Impala's have some issues with the pressure control solenoid. Does anyone know if that holds true for the 04 model year? Is this a job a back yard mechanic can handle?

There is also a problem with debris in the valve passages... do you think this is backyard project?

If it is as easy as changing brakes, motoroil and filter than yes thisback yard mechanic could do it.If it involved special tools or removing the trans from the car I wouldn't bother. The local shops here inOhio change$180- $260 to change theoil filter and gasket on the trans. I know a mechanic friend, unfortunately in another state, that says it costs $30for the kit plus oil and takes about 1hr. So I would hate to see what it would cost for anything more.

If you have to do things like removing the valve body you certainly don't want dust and grime inside the tranny.

It's not like changing the brakes or an oil / filter change that's why I say ... do you think it's a backyard mechanic job ??

I have an 02 Impala LS with 88,000 miles. It shifts hard during acceleration sometimes too. After the trans heats up a little then it starts. Let me know if you found a fix for it and how much $$$are we talking.
