While this model ended its run, it is not uncommon to see them on the road or off, years after production end.

Default Transmission Identification

I recently purchased a 1988 K5 Blazer that has had some work done to it over time. I am trying to get an inventory of the major systems so I know what I have. I do know I have a Jasper GMC 350 5.7 L V8. I know the transfer case and Tranny were replaced with a Jasper as well, but I'm having a hard time identifying what I have.

Any ideas for determining what kind of tranny I have...i suspect it is a 700r4 or TH400 as those are the common tranny's for this model.

Ideas for transfer case ID are appreciated as well.

I have already ID's front and rear differentials as 10 bolt GM Coporate.

It should be in this area in the picture...

This is just an example of one in the late 80's

Transfer Case

All transfer cases have a build tag attached to the case.
On the NP205, it is attached to the bolt retaining the Power Take Off (PTO) cover.
On the NP231, NP233 and NP241, it is attached to the rear case half.
On the NV241 and NV243, it is attached to the rear case half. On the Borg Warner 4401/4470, it is attached to an extension housing bolt.

If you get your ID's they can be looked up to see what model it is.

if you post a pic of your transfer case it will easier to identify, the same with your tranny,it is an automatic right?if the shift pattern is on your t case handle sometimes you can tell which case it is by the shift pattern.keep us informed...as for the tranny you could climb underneath and count the bolts around the pan...the transfer case couls be an np208...pics will help since ther are many different ways this truck could be..do you have manual locking hubs in front?or full time
