2011 Malibu Trans. problems
Same thing here. I wish I could sit it at the front door. Not enjoying my car at all. Pissed off because the guys that suppost to driven the car, or ran my gas out, wasn't even the guys that was fixing the car. They sold me the car.
I have a 2011 Malibu LTZ with 2.4 L engine. Transmission shifts down and rpms redline, took car to dealership in Surprise, Az. Dealer can't find anything wrong, no error codes in computer. Recently transmission is ****ing into neutral after leaving stoplight, rpm redlines. Called Chevy Customer Service, Case number assigned, but without diagnostic error codes, dealer can't solve problem.

SAME thing with my 12 Malibu - hard shifting, hard downshifting, not knowing what gear to be in, not responding to accelerating until 1 minute after pressing gas, rolling back when going to put it in drive from park, pulsating when trying to go up a hill.. I had it at 2 different Chevy shops for a total of 7 days and they said GM claims it's normal for that transmission. GET THIS ONE... the door vibrates when I turn my music up.. GM says it's NORMAL for the door to vibrate! That just shows how crappy their vehicles are lately. I have read about so many people having the same issues with the transmission, you would think Chevy would have canned the 6-speed back in 10' to control the issue. I have driven a 6-speed auto before and have never had these issues and the service manager said "it's characteristic of the 6-speed auto to do that". Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I don't know my dang cars, I'm probably more trained in automotive service than he is.
I contacted my local lemon law attorney and he said I should go ahead with the lemon law and if I don't like the decision Chevy makes he can help me go further. My question to all of you on here is.. is it worth it? I just did about $300 worth of mods (exhaust, tinting, wheels, vinyl work) figuring if GM tells me this is normal operating conditions than I have no choice but to keep it for a few years until I pay it off, but the attorney said I could go ahead with the lemon law because it's still a defective vehicle.

Just want to provide my experience so far: We have a 2011 Malibu with the same shifting problems, its been in the shop (dealer) twice now, and the first time they said the shift points were all messed up in the computer (some low pressure, some high). After they reset the computer, the problem went away for about a week, then returned.
We returned it to the dealership again and they provided a 2012 Malibu as a loaner, same tranny and motor however it did not have shifting issues like ours.
The service adviser said no problems could be detected on the computer, so he took it home overnight to see if he could duplicate the problem the next morning, and he did feel the problems with shifting. They replaced some parts in the transmission, and we will pick it up tonight and see what happens.

Can you tell us what they did to it please. Mines have been in the shop for almost 3 weeks with the same problem. I have even went as far as recording the issue. So i have about 5 recordings on my phone of my car messing up. The dealership employees are telling different things so i dont think they have a clue. The bottom line, one worker say he cant do anything because "gm" wont let hime until the light come home. Well, i didnt see in my warranty paper where the light had to be on to fix the problem. I can picture my 3 kids and i out of time, my light come on and we're side the road. Yeah, its not a good picture gm so get your stuff together!

So, the dealership had my car for almost 3 weeks for nothing. I"ve been told 3 or 4 different things from the same dealership.
The mechanic said GM wont allow him to fix it until the light come up, which mean I could be sitting side the road when that happen. Why keep it so long. There was also a clicking noise in the front wheel which they now tell me that all Malibu's make that noise. Lie. I know 2 other people with one that dont make that noise, not to mention I would have left the mess where it was. But the mechanic also told me it was the mount or something, but the saleman said he was wrong, why have the mechanic and who do you think im going to believe. This is just a bunch of bull if you ask me. If they can fix the problem, why not fix it.

We picked up the car 2 days ago, and the problem appears to be gone, since we havent had any issues so far (however its only been 2 days.)
According to the service papers, the dealership replaced/performed the following:
1x Valve
1x Valve Body Kit (I assume Seals and Gaskets)
8.8 Qts Fluid.
Emergency Rush Delivery of the Parts from GM
Cleaned Valve Body
(They also washed and vacuumed the car, of course)
What they DID NOT REPLACE:
The 1/2 tank of Gas that was in the tank
It was having a serious 2-3 second delay on the 1-2 upshift when warm or cold, and general poor performance when cold. After a cold start the car would feel as if I was towing a heavy load behind it until fully warmed up. After warm up the car would sometimes appear to lock itself into second gear after stopping at an intersection, rolling back on even the slightest inclines. We have not had any issues since we picked it up 2 days ago and problem appears to be gone. I did contact the GM 1-800 customer service number before taking it in this second time to make sure they were aware of an issue. It appears there are literally thousands of others having similar issues with this transmission.
