Default Keyless Entry Programming?

I have an 07 Malibu, and one of my remotes stopped working, and I ran over the other one. My mother has an 06 Monte Carlo, and I was wondering if by chance I could use one of hers and program it to work on my car? She has the remote start (5 buttons) and I don't, would this be a problem? How would I go about programming without taking it to a dealer?

Only a dealership service department or automotive locksmith can program key fobs (actually program the RCDLR module on your vehicle to recognize the key fobs). Have you gotten around to opening the one that "stopped working" yet? The problem may be a depleted battery or, as often is the case, broken solder joints on the battery holder which is repairable by someone handy with a soldering iron.

You can go to a dealer and pay around $180 or a local locksmith that the independent shops use, order a FOB and program it for about $70

Smalltownkid, try looking on Craigslist in your area, great place to start. Good luck!
