Default 96 lumina shifting issues

yea yea here we go 3100 series sfi pos other than chevy heads not much to talk about but when i shift to drive the car revs up to 3-3.6 grand and takes about 2 minutes to get to 20 mph i can start out in first or second and it takes off fine and shift it manually from 2nd to od took it to a transmition place they dont know whats up the transmition itself is fine any ideas

by the way whats it take to swap a 3800 series into it ive been looking at it and got the mounts made up but other than that and wire harness swap dont know much also is there a 5 speed tranny for the 3800 series thats pretty sturdy (keep it simple im a v8 head)
