Default How long until SES/Service light resets?

I have a 2000 Chevy Lumina, and the SES light recently turned on. I replaced the gas cap and have driven just less than 30 miles, and it is still on. I thought it reset at 25, I'm just curious.

The reason I think it is the gas cap is that last year, and two years before that the SES light turned on and the dealership replaced the cap and the issue was resolved (maybe I'm too tough on them?).

Also, I replaced it with one from Autozone, but a Chevy serviceperson once told me it required the OEM cap, any truth to that?

I appreciate it, thank you!
