P1820 Code for a 1996 Chevy Lumina
Hello all,
First time posting. My mother own a 1996 Chevy Lumina. Her check engine light came on the other day while driving. After taking it to her mechanic, he read code P1820. The mechanics one and only suggestion was she needed the transmission replaced. Cost $2100 for a rebuilt. She has said she felt the car acting "funny" lately. Anyone know what this code means for this car? I've seen that the codes mean different things for different vehicles. As far as I know the tranny fluid has not been changed since at least 2006. When I suggested that the mechanic change the fluid and filter, his response was the only thing keeping the car running the way it is is the fact the fluid has not been changed. And in his experience if you change the fluid there is a good possiblility that the car will not run at all. Seems like an odd idea. I have had tranny problems in Fords I owned and changing the fluid has solved the problems. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
