Default 1946 Help.

Hello,
I have recently acquired a 1946 Chevy 1 1/2 ton truck. It had a Hydraulic dump bed on it and stuff. However, the frame was pretty shot on it and I took the body off of it, Fenders, engine cowling, grill, cab, exc. The cab is in quite nice condition, the windshield cranks and all, all glass is there. The seat is in like new condition, as are the windows, except the passenger side. It has a few dents, but I easily hammered them out to almost perfect, and bondo will help here and there. The frame and engine was totaled, as was the bed, so they got scrapped. So. Here comes the problem.

I am 15, getting my license in 7 months. I live 20 miles away from school, and love to cruise and go on road trips. So as you can imagine, the gallons to the mile that the ol' 77 that my father was going to sell me was not gonna cut it. So, here is my idea. I LOVE old trucks. Especially the '46. So, to get good fuel mileage, have a tank of a truck, and look awesome, what if I took a S10 or similar truck that had the v6 or in line 4 and strip the body and put the '46 body on it, and weld out my own flatbed with the wood, then I would get 20 miles to the gallon and have a truck that looks like a 46!

So here is my question to you awesome peoples:
1. Would it work?
2.Would it be feasible?
3. What would you recommend as a vehicle to use?

I have the summer to work on it, I have been working my *** of for a couple of years now, and have around 3 grand saved up. I can, of course work more for cosmetics, paint exc.

Pictures: (Keep in mind they are a month or so old before the frame got scrapped and the body repaired)
With the 77'
alone

Thank you!
Tamaren

Yes it will work, and reasonably feasible, but...

I'd use part of that $3K to buy an inexpensive ride (the 77 ?).
Remember, once you take the swap vehicle down, you'll need some way to get around to buy parts...and other things

That way you won't be under near the pressure.
Get it right, as you get it running.

When you get ready, come back and we'll talk about "procedure".
