Hi everybody !
I'm Adrien, I'm from Belgium, and I'm planning to buy a Monza Spyder 2.5L from the 80's as my first oldtimer... I know a few things about mechanics, but almost nothing about bodywork, and that's why I'm here.
The Monza I'm looking after is in a relatively good mechanic state, the motor has been revised, some parts replaced, the interior seems as good as new, but the body seems to be in really bad condition (see the attachments).
The actual owner says "no traces of rust", I will check that by myself, and some work has already been done on the paint, but I have a plan and I don't know if it's a good idea.
Here's the thing: for now, I don't want to spend a lot of money in a good, well-done paint, I'll do it later, I prefer to focus on maintaining the mechanic, and have pleasure driving it. So I think a good "low-cost" temporary solution would be to apply a covering on top of the actual paint (at least what remains of it). Temporary means one or 2 years.
Do you think it would be a bad idea and why ?
Is there some things I would need to do before applying a cover/paint ? Could it damage the naked metal beneath the cover ?
