Default [Resolved] Q re "Code" in radio ... ??

My dad, now a senior, recently bought a second-hand Chevrolet Aveo. We're both not very techie with features in the newer cars and he asked me about the message on his radio's display - but I couldn't help him as I had no clue either ::g::.

He took the car in last week to the garage for something minor for which and they to disconnect the battery, or something. But when he took the car home, he found he could no longer operate the radio; it now flashes a "Code" message. The buttons underneath allow us to enter numbers but we don't know what numbers are actually needed so we haven't punched anything in.

Dad feels, and it makes sense, that this probably has something to do with the alarm unit installed just above the rear-view mirror on top of the windshield (??). The alarm unit has this on it: SR 443-100. I googled that serial or model # but nothing comes up but eBay items for sale; no info.

Because it's an older card, c. 2002, I think he said - he didn't get a manual with it. Seems that's often the case with older cars ...

Does anyone know anything about fixing this error? Not only do we want the radio functionality back for my folks but if there is something related to the alarm re this, it would be wise to know.

Thanks in advance for any help. Sorry to be so useless but I've not kept up with cars. Can't afford one and have ridden the buses for many years now and you can tend to get behind the times pretty quick.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum...
Have you tried just pressing and holding the power button?
How about the standard 0 0 0 or 1 2 3?

Good Morning,

And my sincere apologies for the long delay in reporting back. To my astonishment, my dad really has come a long way - after years using a PC and not doing much at all with it even after years of use (and relying on me a lot to find out information all that time), I was so very pleasantly surprised that when I told him I'd asked the question on the forum, he proudly shot back that he already had the answer!! That floored me <lol> (but in a good way). It's just that I didn't understand his explanation at the time as it was given in a hurried moment and he was off to do something else and it actually took all this time to pin him down again <g>.

Here's what happened ... Somehow, now that he has a tablet and is getting around on it quite well (pretty good for 75 years young, eh???!!), he somehow ended up on a forum where folks were asking the very same question and in one of the answers, some kind bloke had given a long list of 4-digit numbers (I think it was 4 digits ...). So my dad says, 'what the heck', prints off the list and he goes down to the parking garage and proceeds to try every one. Wouldn't you know but that one of the numbers works and he wrote it down lickety-split somewhere safe.

See, the problem is that the advice to take the vin into the used car dealership is that they they charge you a stinking $100 bucks to get the code which my dad wasn't going to do (he knows this because he called and that's the answer he was given!)! And all it took him was a few minutes using google and he was set. So he was happy, I'm happy to say <g>.

Thanks everyone. My dad saved the day himself, for the first time, which is as great as the fact that the old car's radio got unlocked!

Cheers.
