Exclamation 1992 S10. Running rough and Dies when put in gear. Help!

I have had this problem for a while and have tried a lot of things to fix it. But no luck. It idles really rough and shakes badly, also when I put it in reverse or drive it dies (sometimes). I have tried changing the distributor cap, rotor button, fuel filter, and spark plugs but it only made it worst. I even put some fuel cleaner in it aswell. I cant seem to figure out the problem. I also went to Pepboys but they charge $89 just for a full dynastic. Im in need of help badly. Its my daily driver and I need to get it fixed ASAP. Thanks for you help in advance!

sounds like maybe it could be out of time. when you changed the cap and rotor did you mess with anything else or move the distributor? I know when I did a tune up on my silverado I broke a screw in the distributor when I put the new cap back on and I had to take the whole distributor out and it was such a pain to get it back into time and I was having similar problem to that before we got it back in time and squared away. I could be way off on this but its just a thought.

I tightened the distributor back down after I replaced it. But didnt bother putting the timing light on it. (Could be the problem lol) I will try putting the light on it and see. If not then I guess I will have to take it to Pepboys or something. Thanks guys for your help.

Recheck your plug wires. Put a timming light on it. Then if these don't dorrect it, I'd suspect a major vacuum leak. Do you have a vacuum guage?
