2.8 keeps shutting off
Hey all,
I'm having some problems with a truck I just bought. It's an 86 s10 4x4 5sp with the 2.8 tbi. It starts up and runs for about 30 seconds to a minute then just dies. It idles smooth while it's still running. But doesn't run long. It doesn't spit or sputter before it shuts off either. It sounds like someone turned the key off. I have 10-12 psi fuel pressure from time of start up until it dies. And after it shuts off it still holds 10psi for 10-20 seconds or so till the fuel settles back down the line. According to what I have been told this engine only needs 7psi to run.
So I have fuel, I have air, the only thing I can think of is spark. So it must be ignition right? But what exactly...
Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas? Thank you!!

if your motor only needs 7psi of fuel to run and your getting 10 to 12 psi then your getting to much fuel and its flooding your motor. does it happen all the time or when your just idleing?

Well I just bought the truck. It was like this when I bought it. I took the module out of the distributor and it tested ok at AutoZone. So I'm going to check all the wires on it and put it back in. Then I'm going to block off the egr and see if that helps. I noticed while taking the egr off that a vacuum line goig from the egr to the vacume silinoid was loose where the line goes into the boot. So in going to block then both and see what happens.
