Default 2004 zr2 suspenson noise.

Hello, I have a 2004 ZR2 with a annoying suspension "knock".
when ever you go over small choppy bumps, like breaks in the pavement
I have a "knocking" noise in the front suspension.
anybody ever come across this??

I've checked the all the ball joints, upper and lower and they are o.k.
The stabilizer links seem tight too.
I'm not sure if it is the torsion bar mounts but I will double check them.
The noise is more isolated to the front end of the truck.
This one really has me puzzled.
I'm kind of thinking it might be the steering column shaft. I took off the
air cleaner assy and could move the shaft up and down horiziontally with VERY
little effort. Does anybody else's steering shaft do this?
I think this could resonate noise through the cab of the truck.
The noise could travel through to the steering box and also along the firewall?
