So after hearing everyone has problems with these and how easy it was for me my first time, I figured I would tell everyone how easy it is. After removing the retaining pin, rotate both axles so the open side of the carrier is facing down. I tried using a 10inch heavy duty clamp to push the axle in but the drivers side was really tight and it didnt work, so I tried hitting the end of the axle with a hammer and presto the retainer fell out. Passenger side was easier I was able to push the axle in enough easily by hand a twisting and in and out wiggle got the retainer to drop out in a second or two, easy peasy. Hope this helps for anyone having problems with these retainers.
