Gas mileage & Power
I have a 1999 S-10 X cab with 4.3l. at.4x4.What can I do to get more power & better gas mileage?Douring the week I get around 15mpg.,but when I pull a 6x8 trailer,I get 11mpg.
I purchased a Scangauge II, it gives me instant feedback on most systems including instant MPG and average MPG. I have used it to teach me how to improve my mileage on my '96 S10 pickup w/2.2 and auto. Grant it, it's a completely different setup but, you can learn how to improve your driving habits. I now do everything possible to get the tranny into high gear asap. I don't drag race to the stop sign and I watch ahead to anticipate lights, standing at a stoplight is wasteful, accelerating from 0 is wasteful and using the throttle all the way to a stop is wasteful. Almost any vehicle can be improved considerably this way. Slightly over inflating tires can add 5% easily. Go to cleanmpg.com to learn more. My 96 S10 2 WD pickup has gotten tanks of 27 mpg and I can get over 30 mpg highway by doing the speedlimit and staying in the right lane as much as possible.
Hope this helps, you are the best "mod".
