how to install speakers in my 00 s-10???
hi, i had a 95 s-10 before i got my 2000, i have the standard delco delphi 1 disc cd-fm radio, and the door and dash speakers stock too, im pretty sure its the 4x6 and the 6.5" speakers.
ive looked quite a bit online about how to install new speakers myself, the only thing i came close to finding out was a 5 line post on wikianswers that was a pretty vague description, and i found something on justanswers that i needed clarification on, but im not gonna pay $15 for something i can prolly find out here...
i found this:
-remove the inside door handle bezel retaining screw
- remove inside door handle bezel by sliding it forward
- use a flat-blad screwdriver and pry the power switch panel at front edge to release spring clip.
- pull switch panel up from door trim panel and disconnect the electrical connector
- remove trim panel armrest screws using a trim panel tool (available at parts stores), pry retainers from door frame and remove the trim panel
i got as far as getting the bezel off, the rest i dont get... power switch panel?
can anyone help?
also, once i get it off, are installing the speakers themselves a pretty easy job, i mean im not rewiring, installing an amp, etc., just 4 new speakers.
thanks much!

Ok here is a rundown on door panel removal:
Tools needed:
Flat screwdriver, short or long.
Philips screwdriver
7mm socket + extention + ratchet
Locate and remove 7mm screws under armrest handle. (no, this is not my Blazer)

Pull door handle back and remove philips screw on the plastic bezel.

Do not pull the bezel off lock-end first. Pull the handle end out and slide it forward and up the door handle.

If your truck has power windows or locks, lift up on switch panel and seperate the pinch clip from the door panel. (just pry it up.) It should now be hanging by the wires.

Use your flat screwdriver to carefully pry at the edges of the door panel. Its only held in by white plastic spine-fin-looking pressure clips. You'll more than likely break a couple of them, but replacement clips are cheap at AutoZone.
Once you have the pressure clips separated from the door, roll the window down and slide your fingers between the window felts and pull up and back on the top of the panel (the panel hangs tightly on the window gap). The door panel should now be completely separated from the door. Slide the switch panel through the hole it usually occupies on the door panel.
UNLESS... you have window cranks. There is a clip behind the crank, but I'm not sure how to remove it. I know if its not done carefully, it can fly off and get lost.

The speaker should now be accessable. I think it has 4mm screws holding it in. If its not a direct factory replacement, I advise cutting the speaker grille out of the door panel and screwing the speaker to the door panel (if it has a grille/protective sheild). It looks much better and on BOSE models, you have to buy a whole new speaker shell to replace the BOSE woofer.
The speakers in the dash are much easier to change. Just take the two screws out of the cover and there will be two more holding the speaker in. Beware of tri- and quad- axial speakers. Most of the time, they won't clear the speaker grille and the bottom ring of the grille will have to be cut completely off the grille.

hey brent, i have another question... i was planning on just using the existing wiring in my truck for my new speakers, but im looking at speakers on crutchfield and the installation details section says to "extend the speaker wires in the included harness by 18 inches." what does this mean exactly?
i dont really remember what a harness is...

It doesn't mean anything to me... I think if you are replacing the wires, they want you to leave 18" of extra so you can pull it out of the door and disconnect the wires. They will include a little bit of wire with the speaker usually.
Could you provide a link to the speakers you bought on crutchfield?

i actually havent made a purchase yet, i was told i need to check that the rms/pmp ratings and/or whatever else are the same in the new ones as the old ones...
heres the ones im looking at so far...

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSG1...ures_and_specs
without having a vehicle selected, its not gonna show all the pertinent info i dont think... (<!-- mp_trans_disable_start -->2000 Chevrolet S10 Pickup Extended Cab with rear third door factory stereo)
also, what is a wiring harness exactly? i know i knew once, but its been awhile since i bought speakers.
so its prolly alright if i just use the existing wiring, right? just gotta cut, splice, and re-terminate...
thanks

A wiring harness is just a pre-assembled group of wires for a certain purpose. I don't know why speakers would come with a "harness" it can't have any more than 2 wires.
I'd just use the factory wiring. Lengthen it with new wire if you need to.
With those speakers, I would cut the speaker grille out of the door panel and screw the speaker to the door panel. It looks much better that way in my opinion.
These are mine. They are actually split co-ax woofers with tweeters mounted in the door pillar:
